Chapter 18: Catalina Island

In fine weather, I went to Long Beach harbor and waited for the ship to Avalon. After a light cup of juice with crepes at the restaurant in the waiting room, it was time to leave. A few years ago, when I visited Avalon from Dana Point harbor, I was a little worried because the ship was small, but the ship departing from Long Beach Port was quite large. There were also quite a few people, so there was no problem with the two-hour voyage. When everyone got on and the boat, including the canoe, was loaded, the ship departed. The quiet morning sea looks deep blue, and the birds and fish around seem to welcome everyone. When the parasailing people came into sight, I knew I were close to the island.

I went to Channel Island a few years ago. I remember departing from Ventura Port and arriving on the island for about an hour and a half, but I can't forget the sight of fish, whales, and birds playing in the sea in front of the island before arriving, and the captain said he would stay up for a while and watch, and everyone in the boat watched it for almost half an hour. It was heaven on the sea. Channel Island is made up of five islands, the largest of which has a lot of routes, and everyday the ship went there. Across the sea, there is a small island called Anacapa, which is long, and everyone went to hike. Channel Island had no village, so it was hard to find a bending machine, so it would have been hard if I hadn't taken water. Most people go hiking and walk by, waving their hands to say hello. Waiting for the boat back after hiking, a young friend tells his story. Coming from a small town in central Idaho, there are few places to play, and he says he loves this island.

Unlike Channel Island, Catalina Island Avalon is well-made, and there are casinos as well as rides such as mountain bikes and ziplines, and restaurants and cafes are very clean and many. I was tired to walk around because the island was big, and two ways to move, one is to take a tour bus and the other is to rent golf car, but I used a tour bus. A young and pretty girl sitting right next to me, but the person who I think her father changed the seat. I feel like my seat is full because he is a big white man. The atmosphere suddenly changed. The driver took a turn around the island, and stopped for a while on the hill where everyone could see the island at a glance. Everyone was busy enjoying the scenery with their group. After returning from bus tour, I ate pizza and coke, ice cream for dessert, and an old lady comes and tells her story. She visits Catalina Island for the sixth time, and every time she comes, she says she loves it. I just remembered a young man from Idaho who I met on Channel Island. This lady lives in Southern California, and she seems to have a good time on the island where she can feel freedom. I think traveling is enough if one can feel new atmosphere there.

As the sun was going down, the returning ship arrived. The feeling of looking at the sunset from the ship going back by boat was also different. The World Series was in airing on the ship. Usually, it's time to watch the World Series without leaving home, but the day when I'm actively walking around felt healthier. In the ship, I ate simply with water and snacks in my backpack, by the way, for just information, the food in the ship is a little expensive. I finished the day with quesadilla and tacos on the way home. I quietly looked forward to a new week on the darkened road.
